Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor – An Inspirational Icon, Malaysia’s
First Astronaut
Everyone has their own idol which acts as their inspirational source for them in achieving their dreams in life. The person that I adore the most is Datuk Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor is a Fellow Researcher at Institute of Space Science National University of Malaysia UKM, orthopaedic surgeon, motivational speaker, and astronaut, the first from his country to venture into space. Dr. Sheikh was selected from 11,435 candidates at the beginning of 2006 for the Malaysian Angkasawan spaceflight program. He came on-board the International Space Station via a Russian Soyuz vehicle with the international Expedition 16 crew on October 10, 2007.

He is one of the person who brings an honour to Malaysia, as he became the first Malaysian astronaut when he launched into space back in 2007. One thing about him that I admire is that although he studied medicine and later on worked as an orthopedic specialist in HUKM, he still manage to become a successful astronaut. He proved that if you are good in one profession, it does not mean that you will be stuck in that field forever. We can always stand out of our comfort zone, search for the adventure and challenge ourselves. Other than that, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar has contributed to scientific and medical research about microbes in space, the crystallization of various proteins and many more when he was in aerospace.

- He encouraged people to think out of the box and
believe with themselves
- 10 January 2008, he was awarded to be 'Tokoh Maal
Hijrah' for Negeri Sembilan
- 10 October 2010, he get married with Dr Harlina

In addition, he also gives a lot of motivational talks around the country, discussing about his experiences and studies in space. There are lots of positive values that I gain from his experience. The main reason why I adore Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar is because he always wants to challenge himself with new things. He prove to me that nothing is impossible in this world and all of our dreams will come true if we work really hard to achieve it. All in all, Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar has been a role model to me or even the whole world with his achievements. I hope that i can be a successful person as Datuk Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, not only in academic but someone who can contribute something meaningful to our country one day.
For the conclusion, there are a lot of
thing and positive values that we can learn from Dr Sheikh Muszaphar. He have
proved that nothing is impossible in this world and all of our dreams can be
reality if we work hard to achieve that dream. Besides, we also can learn that,
to be a successful person, we need to have leadership skills, high spirit, able
to work as a team and never easily give up.
